I’m often having troubles deciding on a rating especially for those 2 or 3 star songs. I always have the feeling that my current mood influences the decision, subsequently having me missing out on songs that I would have liked to hear when in a particular mood but which I dismissed while feeling differently during the rating process.
In addition I think my ratings are also biased by how well I know the song in question. Often heard songs by well known artists tend to get a higher rating than titles I’m not as familiar with. Even the cover image seems to influence my judgement and is often the deciding factor for dipping a song into the 2 or 3 star rating pigeonhole.
I know I can always change and adjust all the ratings later on but who really does that regularly? You’d have to question your first decision every time you listen to music which is not something I’d be looking forward to.
